Thai Boxing (Muay Thai) history
Muay Thai, the art of fighting, is part of the identity of the Thai people. Its roots go back to ancient times in Thai history, during wich Siam (Thailand) was at war with its neighbouring countries, in order to protect its "Golden Land". Throughout the years warfare tactics and weaponry changed drastically, but the Muay Thai tradition remained unchanged.
Today, Muay Thai is recognised as one of the most lethal martial art technique. Muay Thai teaches various techniques to use every part of a strong and healthy body as a weapon. |
 |
Muay Thai is referred to as "The Art of the Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai ("nak muay") thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts. |
